In the Boomer generation, smoking wasn’t a vice—it was a rite of passage. Teenagers lit up in school bathrooms, behind drive-ins, and even at family gatherings, mimicking movie stars and rebels without a cause. Cigarettes were glamorized, not cautioned against.

Health warnings were either nonexistent or whispered in medical journals few read. Tobacco ads boomed on TV, in magazines, and on billboards, often featuring doctors, athletes, or cartoon characters. By the time public awareness caught up, many Boomers had already developed lifelong habits.
