21. But it Makes For a Fun Pasttime
Where did the teacher think you would have to annotate books? In college? As part of applying for a job? It’s not a bad skill to have, and being able to interpret something like a novel could, admittedly, be a handy skill that could translate to any sort of learning (both academically or otherwise).

Maybe that’s what this teacher meant, because outside of book club and specific people at parties, it may not be the most practical skill on its own. I’d also side with the teacher here, if only because I think their intention was more toward the skill acquired than the novels themselves.
