#30: Loneliness as a Daily Companion
There were weeks when Karl didn’t speak to a soul. No phones. No towns. No language in common. Just the steady rhythm of footsteps and the thoughts that rose and fell with each mile. He learned the difference between being alone and being lonely.

At times, silence was comforting. But other times, it pressed against him, heavy and echoing. He’d talk out loud, make jokes to himself, or imagine conversations with people he missed. He wasn’t afraid of isolation, but that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt.
